I woke up this morning in northern Alberta and the thermometer read – 38 (C). I’m too cold right now to convert that to Fahrenheit, but it’s basically the same. Trust me, it’s brisk. I’m returning to Nashville next week, and though I had to cancel 2 house concerts because of my healing broken arm, I do plan to play at Kimbro’s Cafe in Franklin, thanks to the fact that Ron Block is going to play second guitar. Correction: Ron will play first guitar, and I’ll play second guitar (think Curley Sechler, Nashville Grass era). It’ll feel good to play the first gig since the fateful fall in late November.
I got back on the curling ice last night, making sure to keep the arm protected, and it went okay. We eveb won. Speaking of curling, if you check the tour dates page, you’ll see that we’re playing a somewhat unusual show in February: The Olympic trials for US curling. It’ll happen in Denver, and we’ll be entertaining the best curlers in the US on the first night of the event. We’re even going to sing the Star-spangled Banner for the opening ceremonies. That’s no easy song, let me tell you, having sung it once at a bluegrass festival at 9:00 AM. Starting low is the only way to go.
If you’re a J.D. Crowe fan, there’ll be lots of vintage JD on this week’s Truegrass show on Bluegrass Junction. It airs again on Sunday, Jan. 25, 6PM eastern. That’s on Sirius-XM (bluegrassjunction.xmradio.com)
