Greetings from Edmonton, Alberta, where I am waiting for a plane, after running as fast as I could from the Nashville floods. In truth, I was scheduled to be here anyway. As it turned out, though, after we played our recent Ohio shows, I was never able to even get to our house in Nashville to check on it or pick anything up. I stayed with Ned and Kelley Luberecki for two days, and left for Alberta with whatever I had packed for 2 days in Ohio. Fortunately I had my passport.
The situation in Nashville is serious and tragic, and is sure to be declared a federal disaster area. It’s fortunate that due to the great work of rescue workers, the death toll is still quite low. Please keep the people of Nashville in your thoughts and prayers.
The Night Drivers are off for a few weeks before the busiest part of our touring season starts in early June. My Bluegrass Junction shows will be safely done from my “northern studio” (a good thing: Sirius XM studios are upstairs in the Nashville Arena, which is currently flooded at the ground level, without power and closed). My upcoming “Truegrass” show this Friday won’t have a big flood theme or anything, but I do plan to work in the “Galveston Flood” and “I’ve Endured”. I’ll also be answering requests for the Osborne Brothers, Flatt & Scruggs and other songs. Tune in at 3:00 PM eastern time on Friday, Sirius 65, XM 14
In an ongoing “contest” (there are no winners, only spamming losers), I’m posting the best of this week’s fake comments on this site from spammers. I’d love to have you leave a real comment, if you get a moment.
This week’s winner:
“Things like this are incredibly disturbing to me and should be to everyone.”
I think this was in response to my post discussing the addition of one tour date. I had no idea how controversial getting some extra work could be!
I’ve attached a shocking photo of the Grand Ole Opry house in Nashville.
