New Review, Music Camp

DSC00425Greetings from my northern Alberta hideaway, where the mild winter continues, and the winter Olympics euphoria has only been reduced to a simmer.

You may have heard, or maybe I posted something about my broken wrists. Not to worry: they’re minor fractures, and I’m already back to playing the guitar. That’s a good thing because next week Sally and I head to 108 Mile House, BC for the Cabin Fever Bluegrass Workshop. We’ll be teaching there throughout the week and doing concerts there too. We’ll be joined by Special Consensus, Bill Evans and Megan Lynch and many of Canada’s top pickers and bluegrass instructors.

The Night Drivers and I resume the 2010 tour schedule in April with dates in Durango, Colorado (The Durango Bluegrass Meltdown), Ohio and Nashville.

A new review of Cloud of Dust appeared in this month’s Bluegrass Unlimited magazine, written by David Royko. Here’s the link:

As always, my show on Sirius XM’s Bluegrass Junction is on M-F 3-9PM eastern time, Sat 12-6PM and Sunday 6-9PM. The next airing of my classic bluegrass show, Truegrass, is this Friday at 3:00 PM eastern. This week’s highlights include Keith Whitley singing “Railroad Lady”, Lester Flatt and Everett Lilly singing “Somehow Tonight”, Doc Watson singing “Shady Grove”, plus lots of listener requests including songs by Reno & Smiley, Hazel and Alice, The Country Gentlemen and Del McCoury.

As we look forward to spring, here’s a photo looking back at the depths of winter. A lot of songs have been written in that house
Chris

Lovely pic of your Alberta getaway Chris! I spent most of my childhood north of Peace River… your place reminds of those days. I live in Victoria BC now… working at CBC Radio. My colleague Jo-Ann introduced you at your show here last year. Great to hear you’re in 108 Mile for the workshop with Sally. I hope to get up there for that one day. In the meantime, we’re playing your version of Ribbon of Darkness tomorrow on the show as a promo for the concerts coming up later in the week. Should be around 3:15pm or 4:15pm tomorrow (Wed) 91.3FM in 108 Mile.

Have a great week up there!

Hey Chris, That is a real good photo of “The Frozen North”. Here in Toronto, my tulips are about 2 inches up, and there are buds on the lilacs and other spring trees. Milepost 108. Well, I have been there. I drove the Alcan both ways. My second wife and I drove to Fairbanks Alaska in October of 1968. I cannot tell you how my first real experience with seeing the northern lights impressed me. We drove back out in 1979. As I keep getting older, I want to keep moving south. I hear that the equitorial jungles of Brasil are nice this time of the year. HaHaHa.
    Faithful listener, Darwin
