I sure can pick the vacation spots! I spent the week following my birthday (the one with a “0″ at the end) in Edmonton, Alberta, wher ethis week they not only broke their own records for cold temperatures, the area was the coldest spot in North America in the last few days (apparently the far north was warmer, because it had sent all its cold air here).
I was in Edmonton watching the Canadian Olympic trials for curling, which is one of the premier events in the sport. 2 Alberta teams finished first in the men’s and women’s sides: Kevin Martin of Edmonton, and Cheryl Bernard from Calgary (see photos below).
The Night Drivers’ touring schedule is done for 2009, but 2010 is looking like the busiest year we’ve ever had, so we’re excited about that. Thanks again to everyone in radio for their continued support and airplay of “Cloud of Dust”.
This week’s “Truegrass” show on Bluegrass Junction will feature classic bluegrass Christmas music from Reno and Smiley, The Country Gentlemen, The Stanley Brothers and more. We’ll also have music from Red Allen, John Hartford, Cliff Waldron, and the usual host of bluegrass pioneers. It will air this coming Friday, from 3 to 6PM eastern, the again on Sunday, 6 to 9 eastern.

Hi Chris,
I’m wondering about your ties to Northern Alberta. I’ve noticed on a few occasions that you broadcasted from the area. I was driving north through Peace River a few Christmas’ ago, heading to the NWT, and I was listening to your broadcast from the area. I thought that was pretty cool. It doesn’t take much to get me excited, and the thought of such a great picker within’ a snowballs throw got me through the next few hours of driving. lol. Anyhow, I was just wondering what keeps you coming back? Do you have family in the area? Also, do you perform when in Peace Country. If so, I’ll definately be making the 7 hour trek south to catch a show.
Happy Holidays
Mike
Hey Mike,
Yes, my wife is from here, and during the school year she works at a college in Grande Prairie. Thanks to modern technology, I can keep my radio shows gong from here, which is great. I don’t play around here much, or haven’t yet. Occasionally we’ve done some informal shows at the Cherry Point community hall. I’ll keep you posted, though. It’s -32 here today, probably colder where you are. Stay warm and have a Merry Christmas!
